On July 19, 2023, NSFC President Dr. Dou Xiankang met with China Medical Board (CMB) delegation led by its newly appointed president, Dr. Roger I. Glass.

President Dou Xiankang appreciated the work of CMB in supporting medical research and talent training in China, and promoting scientific and person-to-person exchanges between China and the U.S.. He also said that NSFC is willing to support the exchanges and training of young talents in medical and health fields, enhance the mutual understanding and trust of both biomedical and health communities, and improve the health of people in the two countries and the world through collaborations with CMB.

Dr. Glass reviewed the history of medical science cooperation between China and the U.S., stating that such activities were beneficial to the health and well-being of both countries and people around the world. He hoped to join hands with NSFC to support exchanges and cooperation in health sciences.

Both parties agreed to have in-depth discussions on relevant matters shortly afterwards.

Dr. Gu Ruisheng, Deputy Director General of Department of Health Sciences, Dr. Yin Wenxuan, Deputy Director General of Bureau of International Cooperation and other officials attended the meeting.
