On October 12th, 2022, in a virtual keynote address “The Trajectory of global Collaboration” at the 2022 Times Higher Education World Academic Summit (WAS), National Natural Science Foundation of China President Jinghai Li shared his vision of "Science as Global Public Good: The Common Interest".
Co-organized by Times Higher Education and New York University, WAS was held in New York. Heads of funding agencies, such as National Science Foundation, and leaders of universities, such as University of Toronto, University of Sydney, gathered WAS to address the topic of “Trajectories in higher education: Meeting rising expectations”, from October 10 to 13 (Beijing Standard Time),
President Li said that facing shifting paradigms in science and tackling global challenges, we must identify the common principle for multilevel knowledge gaps and related scientific questions. This is the common interest, opportunities and common challenge that necessitates international cooperation. He also shared his views on many other topics regarding scientific research.
Dr. Li’s speech showed NSFC’s commitment to increase investment in scientific research and China’s strong will to join hands with the international community to tackle global challenges. His contribution has been echoed and applauded by WAS participants.
