Jointly hosted by the Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SENACYT, Panama) and the National Science Foundation (NSF, United States), the 10th GRC (Global Research Council) Annual Meeting was held from 30 May to 3 June 2022 in a hybrid format, combining online and in-person attendance. Prof. Li Jinghai, President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) attended the meeting online.
Heads of Research Councils and representatives of research funding agencies from Africa, America, Asia, Australia, and Europe attended this meeting and discussed two main topics: Research Ethics, Integrity, and Culture in the Context of Rapid Results, and Science and Technology Workforce Development. GRC Statements of Principles (SoP) on these topics were endorsed at the meeting.
This year’s Annual Meetings also provide a platform for the exchange of views and best practices on the following topics, including Multilateral Cooperation for the Sustainable Development in the Amazon Region, GRC’s Role in Promoting International Multilateral Cooperation, Responsible Research Assessment, and Gender Equality Diversity and Inclusion in Research.
During the meeting, Prof. Li Jinghai delivered a report entitled “Science for This Age: Paradigm Shift and Challenges”, emphasizing the importance of the logic and landscape of the knowledge system, the integration of knowledge and application, transdisciplinarity, and key scientific questions for tackling the global challenges and shifting the paradigm in science. In addition, Prof. Li Jinghai delivered a speech at the session on Multilateral Cooperation for the Sustainable Development in the Amazon Region through pre-recorded video, expressing NSFC’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with other partners and support the sustainable development of the Amazon region through science and technology.
Deputy Director-General Zhang Yongtao from the Bureau of International Cooperation and staff of the General Office (Office of Research Integrity) and the Bureau of International Cooperation attended the meeting.
