Dr. Hou Zengqian, Ph.D., was born in Gaocheng, Hebei Province in 1961. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from China University of Geosciences in 1988, and served as Assistant President, Deputy Director and Director of institutes at Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS). He is the recipient of NSFC Outstanding Young Scholar, “Chief Scientist” of Program 973, and head of deep resource project, and also serves as Director of the China Committee of the International Geoscience Program (IGCP), Vice President of China Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Association, and Regional Vice Chairman of Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA). Dr. Hou's research interests are the theory of metal mineralization and resource exploration technology. He created collisional orogen metallogenesis, constructed new metallogenic models for porphyry copper in collisional settings, lead-zinc deposits in fold-and-thrust belts, carbonatite associated REE deposits and etc., identified the mechanism of metal enrichment and metallogenesis in continental collision, discovered regional metallogeny, and provided theoretical basis for a significant breakthrough in prospecting Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. His academic achievements include Grand Prize and First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, First Prizes of Land and Resources Science and Technology Achievements, editor of 4 English monographic series, author of 4 Chinese monographs.
